Sasuke Uchiha—Naruto Shippuden episode 115
Sasuke eyes his brother from the corner of his eye. A part of him doesn’t believe it, he swears Itachi stayed to keep an eye on him and his dad. On the other hand, he is relieved that Itachi did stay. It certainly helps when he gets into it with his father. Well not that they fight per say, it’s just their ‘discussions’ leave him feeling like fucking shit most times.
It certainly doesn’t feel bad when he sometimes vents to his brother.
Still he doesn’t express this, he leans back in his seat and looks out his window.
“We’re brothers, we’ve spent our entire lives together,” he decides to say instead.

He has no idea what to say in response, really. What was it supposed to mean? That that was enough time, and they were to separate? Itachi won’t certainly stop Sasuke if he decides to move away, and live on his own. That’s his own choice to make freely. But Itachi won’t leave on his own. Not as long as his Father is in the area to get to Sasuke. In this area only, he felt that Sasuke needed his protection.
Nothing comes to him, gazing outside his window.
Sasuke takes a few seconds to process his brother’s words.
“You should’ve gone aniki,” he finally responds with a frown, picking at the leather of the steering wheel.
“I don’t need you to babysit me. I can look after myself,” he says a bit too sharply. He sighs afterward. Damn why does he keep snapping at him? Perhaps his brother did have a point. He can’t control his emotions as much wants to. Annoying. He ignores that thought for now and reaches to skip the song currently playing. Not in the mood for The Weekend, but he settles on Post Malone’s “Psycho”.
He taps on the steering wheel and looks ahead to see if he can spot the traffic jam. Nope just a long endless line of cars. Damn. Maybe he should’ve stuck to the streets.
“Do you enjoy what you’re studying right now?”
“It’s not about babysitting. I just…want to spend the time with you.” He did enjoy his current major, it involved a lot less risk, but that was besides the point. Being away from his little brother was difficult– more so knowing, in his own opinion, that his Father was effectively terrorizing Sasuke. He couldn’t live with himself if he just flew across the country and left Sasuke with no one to talk to, to reassure him, and then there are small moments where he thinks staying here is also doing some harm, as opposed to helping.
He doesn’t want to answer the other questions yet…clearing up this misunderstanding was more important.
Once he’s settled in the lane, Sasuke lets himself relax some. The thoughts in his head prompt him to turn down the volume. The music is a low hum. He exhales a breath.
“Sorry.” His adjusts his grip on the wheel. “I didn’t mean to start shit with you aniki,” he admits. Traffic up ahead slows them down until they come to a complete stop. Sasuke takes a moment to look over at Itachi and nudges his brother’s arm.
He tries to find his next set of words, but none of them sound right. Or they feel like they’ll expose him too much. Letting his fingers hang off the bottom of the steering wheel he looks ahead and inches with the long line of traffic.
“So was he disappointed in you when you choose a different major than he intended,” he asks quietly.
“Yes.” The answer just for now.
He too, is trying to choose his words carefully. He doesn’t want Sasuke to shut him down again, as it would defeat the purpose of him freeing up his day to spend it with him. And in the end, he’d blame himself. What a good big brother he is, isn’t he? Constantly upsetting his younger sibling.
“The career he envisioned would have meant I’d have to apply for a college halfway across the country. I don’t doubt I could’ve gotten in.”
A very brief pause.
“But it meant I’d be too far away from you. So I reelected my major and applied for a local college.” What his Father thought be damned.
But maybe…maybe that was a mistake? Was he at fault for the pressure on Sasuke getting heavier?
His brother’s expression has Sasuke’s smirk drop off his face. His jaw sets. The rush is gone from his body, leaving behind swirling feelings of discontent and guilt.
“You sounded just like him just now,” he remarks with a frown. Sasuke keeps his eyes on the road and doesn’t saying anything. In fact he reaches out to the radion and turns up the volume. Letting Rise Against’s song ‘Bullshit’ blare through the small car.
He comes up to the highway ramp and speeds up to beat the yellow light. Focusing on merging onto the highway, he leans forward and checks over his shoulder a few times before sliding into left most lane.
There’s an apology leaving Itachi’s mouth, but it won’t reach him. Sasuke’s decided the conversation is over, and Itachi will give him that much. That wasn’t his intention. He simply wanted to explain that Sasuke was allowing his emotions to rule him, and while having them wasn’t bad– at the moment they were proving negative, and possibly putting both their lives in danger.
Itachi settles his hands in his lap. He’ll go on and remain quiet then. But he can’t quite help Sasuke if Sasuke drowns out his attempts.
“Yeah,” Sasuke says sharply, “ and somehow he doesn’t find it in him to be disappointed in you.” The light a few feet ahead of them blinks yellow. Sasuke doesn’t even consider stopping. He slams his foot on the gas and sends them speeding through, despite it already red.
The sound of honks behind them only summon a smirk on his lips. Forgetting for a second his anger. He lifts his foot off the pedal, slowing down to the limit posted on the street.
“I’m in control aniki, don’t worry,” he says, shooting his brother a quick glance. An arrogant smirk on his lips.
“Control implies you’re immune to pressure and emotions, and you’ve sped up twice while talking about our Father–” Okay, a little too analytical, perhaps. Had they reached the stadium? He wasn’t looking… They might have very well passed it some time ago.
Please… his expression begs, his smile shakey. He simply wanted to spend time with his brother, not center the conversation around their Father.
“What do you mean be careful? That car was going slow as fuck,” he argues. Though he does lay off the gas, some. Loosening his grip on wheel, a small sigh escapes him.
“That’s all that matters in the end nii-san. There is only you. There is no me,” he mutters. He follows his brother’s set path or he risks disappointing him.
“You haven’t disappointed him, so that’s easy for you to say,” he snaps, foot pressing on the pedal once again.
“Sasuke…” He had a rebuttal prepared, but it dies in his throat as he feels Sasuke speeding up again. It is difficult to provide reassurance and comfort when one’s sibling is intent on putting them in danger. Was this on purpose? It couldn’t be.
“My major isn’t the exact one he envisioned for me.” Maybe that would help a little bit?
Sasuke shakes his head with a snort. “I wouldn’t call it worried, more like disappointed.”
He presses on the gas once the light turns green. The needle on the dashboard clearly goes over the speed limit, but Sasuke doesn’t heed to it. Instead he goes faster, switches lanes, then passes the car in front of them before merging back into their original lane.
“I want to take four classes for my senior year, but he’s not convinced.” His grip on the steering wheel tightens.
“Did you take a full course load your senior year?”
“Yes. But that was me, Sasuke. …Please do be careful.” A small, worried warning, hands loosely on the edge of his seat. He is safely tucked into the seatbelt, at least.
“I’m sure you will be fine. His feelings on your choices don’t matter in the end,.” This he tries to reassure. Sasuke was not so good with the pressure, as evidenced by the speeding…
Sasuke locks the door behind him and leads the way to his car. The sight of his black Scion FRS settles some of his frustrations knowing that he bought it with his own money. Well most of his own money. Itachi helped some, and his mother did too.
Settling in the driver’s seat, he connects his phone and presses shuffle on his Spotify. He’d let the app select their songs.
“I’m feeling the batting cages,” he mentions to Itachi. Making sure the street is clear, Sasuke pulls out of the driveway and speeds down the street. As he stops at a red stoplight, Sasuke shoots a glance in his brother’s direction.
“Dad is really getting on my case for senior year,” he grumbles.
“You’re doing fine.” He’s seen the scores, and has heard the discussions. Naturally, Fugaku wants Sasuke to remain at the top of his class, but it was his senior year. He was allowed to relax a little.
“He’s worried about your GPA. It won’t take a nose dive because you have your own priorities occasionally.” Simple as that.
“Yes.” He’s quite proud of that feat, actually. Didn’t matter where Sasuke was going, really.
His brows shoot up in surprise, but immediately he smooths out his expression.
“Alright. Let’s go then,” he opens the door, and gestures with a tilt of his head for his brother to go first.
Absolutely. Not going to waste precious time, here. He’s even shut his phone off, because the priority is absolutely Sasuke.
