Sasuke slams the door closed, his father’s words still burning in his chest. He grips his shirt, trying to control the pain plaguing him within. Staring straight at Itachi, he feels himself fall to his knees. “Why can’t I be like you,” he whispers desperate and lost.

Situations like these….were delicate. A source of anguish for both of them. But Itachi has learned to be careful to turn the situation on himself, for his elder brother’s pain is what matters more, in the end.

It is not a healthy way of coping with the situation, but it is the only thing he can think of in lieu of incurring Sasuke’s wrath.

Smart. Prodigy. Talented beyond measure. That’s what they all say, but none of that helps Itachi when Sasuke worries about the gap in their skill. It makes it useless– what is it worth if he cannot help Sasuke…

For a few seconds too long, Itachi is quiet, drilling his mind for the proper answer, and unable to find any. He declares it a lost cause, and simply picks himself up from his spot at the desk, trying to close the distance. Maybe a hug will help. Father says mean things– but Itachi still loves you.

Naruto bounces his legs. Smiling at his friend’s older brother, he glances down. “Sasuke isn’t talking to me,” he confesses. Scratching the back of his neck, Naruto sighs. “Has he maybe toldya why?”

Facilitating communication between his younger brother and his friend was something Itachi was not quite fond of. He wanted them to get along well, and that involved speaking with another. Was it really as natural as Itachi had hoped, if Naruto had to come to him for advice?

“I’m afraid he doesn’t share quite as much with me.” Whereas in the past Sasuke was eager to recount his day, positive and negative, to Itachi, these days he heard much less, often due to his full mission roster. Sasuke couldn’t hold the adoration forever, perhaps…

“Perhaps a more gentler approach would help.” He knows Naruto is quite loud.

Who was Itachi closer to – mom or dad? And why.

[[ His Father.

But– he wasn’t particularly close to either of them as a whole. Perhaps when he was under four, but after he saw the battlefield, he distanced himself from both parents, because Itachi was under the belief that an adult doesn’t depend on their parents. He began heavily disagreeing with his Father over how the clan was run, and his Mother became someone who fed him and did his clothing, but little else. This wasn’t the fault of his parents, merely his shinobi mindset.

This is why Mikoto is much closer to Sasuke–  Sasuke doesn’t have the same expectations of Itachi and therefore Mikoto was able to actually Mother Sasuke properly. She didn’t get to do that with Itachi. ]]
