Blinks at the Nii San and smiles, almost expectantly.
He lifts Sasuke, near immediately. Up by the shoulders and close to his chest, arms shifting down to hold Sasuke’s weight by his bottom.
“Happy birthday, little brother.” A kiss is planted on Sasuke’s forehead gently, uncaring if a complaint is to be followed.
Sasuke leans into the gentle pats with a low happy hum. He almost forgets to listen to his brother’s response. “How does a person own a country? That’s weird,” he points out.
“A Daimyo has influence because of money, and from then on, his children inherit his fortune and his influence.” It was a little unfair sometimes.
“A shinobi works for his Hokage, who answers to the Daimyo.”
He looks over the pages then back up at his brother. History? He wrinkles his nose. “Sounds boring,” he comments while leaning back against his brother’s chest. “Do you like it? Who is the Daimyo?”
Ah… that’s why he loves Sasuke.
Sasuke doesn’t have to trifle himself with learning things like this in great detail. And if Itachi has his way, he never will.
A hand pats Sasuke’s hair, three times in succession.
“The Daimyo is the man who owns our country. The village answers to him and it’s where we shinobi get our funding.”
Sitting behind his big brother, Sasuke reaches out and plays with the ends of his brother’s ponytail. “Ne ne nii-san, why do you like keeping your hair long?” Sasuke gets on all fours and crawls closer to Itachi. He slips under his arm and claims a seat on his lap. “What are you reading?”

He never really thought about it before. Itachi reaches up, draws his hands back, from his bangs to the end of his low ponytail. Was there truly a reason behind it? Maybe not.
But he doesn’t need to answer the question it seems, as Sasuke’s found something far more interesting.
“The history of our country’s Daimyo, Sasuke.”

You’d get away a lot easier with making him laugh if you are Sasuke and Shisui, people he is predisposed to have a soft, warm, and friendly attitude towards. So it can be almost anything– you just have to be in his good graces first. ]]

[[ If he’s not thinking of battle plans during a fight, his current mission, then he’s thinking about the future– which changes depending on where he is during his life. Though most of it is with the end goal of keeping Sasuke safe.
