You said you had misread the ship question but had a long answer thought out.(UwU) Now I am curious to both what you thought you read, and what the long answer would have been! (*w*) (Summary is ok too) (Tgis is a different anon, one of your mutuals. I like your itachi a lot! )

[[ The long answer was basically… more or less “what would it take for Itachi to stay with a partner for a very long time”.

I thought about making illustrations but I type way faster than I draw and it would just be too much effort.

Now, for the purpose of this…..scenario (ugh) the assumption is there was tension between the Uchiha and the Leaf,  but a solution was found and thus the massacre was avoided. So a non-mass AU. This allows Itachi to stay inside the village since trying to ship with him in a canon timeline is basically impossible.)

It’s also 99% sure that Itachi would’ve ended up with a girl, but I’ll use gender neutral language anyways.

But I’ll list the criteria again.

Personality/Behavior

Itachi needs a partner who’s personality will either

a) compliment his

or

b) not clash with his

People like Izumi and Shisui, for example. Izumi has an easygoing, calm, kind of demure personality. Shisui has a vibrant, outgoing, honest personality and always backs up Itachi and his decisions. These are good people for him.

Itachi, as evidenced by the Uchiha clan meetings, does not like being insulted, screamed at, or belittled.

Especially not from people he is close with/has gotten close to. A partner who is too aggressive or who immediately turns to starting fights or insulting/screaming at him is not someone who he’s gonna want to be around with for very long.

His partner’s view of the Uchiha has to be neutral/positive and free of stereotypes. The partner must not also attempt to apply those negative stereotypes to Itachi.

Quite obviously…. Itachi isn’t going to be with someone who detests the Uchiha. Itachi is an Uchiha.

When it’s coming from complete strangers? Itachi can brush things like this off and label them as something else. When it’s coming from someone he is in the process of getting close to or is close to, it’s an issue. Especially if the partner is trying to apply negative stereotypes of the Uchiha to Itachi.

I’ve had ships (and an attempted ship) where it was clear the muse, really, really hated the Uchiha. It was awful.

Itachi prides himself (silly boy) on being different than the other, adult Uchiha, so to be labeled like this anywayas is a low blow. He has his own personal gripes with the Uchiha and unless the partner is Uchiha to begin with, this really isn’t the partner’s place to discuss. Plus that segues into the most important topic….

Sasuke.

How does Itachi’s partner view Sasuke? This is the ultimate deal breaker. If the partner hates Sasuke, it’s over, then and there. He can’t be with someone who absolutely hates his little brother, since his little brother is the most important person in his life.

But what about if it’s Sasuke who disapproves of the partner? This one is different, because it doesn’t automatically mean that it’s over, but how the partner reacts to Sasuke’s jealousy and aggression will be the key. The partner doesn’t have to be absolutely head over heels for Sasuke, but play nice where possible. Care for him a good amount, and if they really, really can’t, then be polite. The moment the partner starts aggressing back too much (even if it is justified), it will negatively impact Itachi’s opinion on them.

Is it healthy? No. But it’s Itachi, and Sasuke will always be his #1. ]]

Hi! Is kurenai as good at genjutsu as Itachi? I’ve heard this on this site before but this site also tends to be wrong about a lot of things. Is this true?

[[ The short of it is: It’s not true. Kurenai’s genjutsu is vastly inferior to Itachi’s. Itachi is a natural Dojutsu user, and Itachi has also been extensively training his Genjutsu since he awakened his Sharingan. Kurenai lost the genjutsu battle badly to Itachi. This is canon, it literally happens on the pages.

The slightly longer version with the hot take is: Trying to argue that the fight wasn’t fair because Itachi is an Uchiha is pointless. So we have to dumb Itachi down and baby Kurenai so she feels good about herself? She was fighting an S-rank criminal and she knows he’s an Uchiha. She put out her very best and it wasn’t enough. Don’t baby Kurenai, they’re just on two different levels. Fights with good guys V bad guys aren’t supposed to be fair, realistic fights aren’t always fair anyways. Kakashi lost to Itachi too, are we going to argue that Kakashi is written badly/written unfairly/got shafted, etc?

The part of it that’s me going on a tangent is: We honestly need to stop acting as if a female character is “written badly” or “poorly” when she doesn’t have canon-shattering strength and abilities. All this does is create a ridiculous expectation that women characters are only defined by their strength and abilities. She’s a well respected and powerful Jonin on her own, she trained a team of skilled trackers, and she raised Mirai with the help of her team and stayed a single mother, and she overcame a Father who was misogynistic.

Kurenai is a great character, and the people who try to argue her genjutsu is or “should be” just as powerful as Itachi’s are insanely jealous of Itachi and are overlooking the rest of her character. ]]

[[ Man, Itachi is such a shitty villain right off the bat. No wonder his English VA could tell something was wrong right away.

1) Spends half the morning/day just loitering around the village, not causing a commotion. Visits a tea shop to get sweets for himself, possible nostalgia factor. Those are for him, Kisame can’t chew sticky things.
2) Bails at the mention of Sasuke. Nope– not out here to meet him, buh-bye.
3) Tells Asuma and Kurenai to their faces he doesn’t want to kill them. Asuma immediately calls this out….considering what Itachi is infamous for. A killer, not wanting to kill? Hm…something’s wrong here.
4) Itachi calls the shots between himself and Kisame. Okay, he realizes they have to fight. This doesn’t mean they can go all out. Kisame’s sweet enough to ask for permission to kill but Itachi wants a fight that won’t attract a lot of attention.
5) a second time, Kisame is told to tone it down, and do it Itachi’s way instead.
6) Uses techniques which are non-fatal. Worst he did physically was kick Kurenai into the river.
7) Bail when Gai mentions he called the ANBU for backup. That’s too many people.
8) the whole?? thing??? with sasuke. As Crispin said– you don’t put that much effort into a person that you do legitimately hate/don’t care for. Yes his methods are shitty and misguided but the whole effort put into making sure Sasuke hates him/reacts to him. It’s there. Itachi’s invested in it. Something is going on for Itachi to want to ensure Sasuke’s attention is on him, that Sasuke doesn’t change his goals.
9) Kisame mentions, when they’re escaping– that they do this a lot. Often. Frequently. Kisame’s just had to put up with his pacifism that Itachi can’t break. He gets a lil frustrated sometimes. Itachi says it’s because he needs to rest, and Kisame quiets up real quick.                             ]]

[[ Just to clarify, Itachi didn’t pick birds because “uwu goth aesthetic”, he picks birds purely because no one expects birds, and a sudden flock of crows in your face is going to confuse you WAY MORE than a substitution log/common replacement item.

It wasn’t about being cool/showing off, it was about effectively confusing his enemy and making them panic through a method no one’s tried before, and no one is generally expecting. ]]

[[ An interesting thought I just had.

Itachi’s own bias for Sasuke soured his own relationship with his Father, harshly criticizing every single ‘mistake’ Fugaku made, even though Itachi made a lot of those same mistakes and made excuses for himself.

Three times– two times specifically directed towards his Father, Itachi’s opinion of Fugaku grows worse as Fugaku does things Itachi perceives as insulting or damaging to Sasuke. Itachi doesn’t care much about how his Father treats him,  (at least, not on a level that Itachi is acutely aware of), but when Fugaku does something that upsets Sasuke, or something Itachi thinks will disrupt Sasuke, Itachi grows angry.

The first instance is when the district is being built. All the adults are unhappy because they know why. They’ve been accused of the attack and are being sequestered to a corner of the village, forced to all live together. Itachi, child that he is, doesn’t understand why the adults can’t be happy their homes are being built first. The district, from Itachi’s point of view, will provide safety and peace where Itachi can raise Sasuke. Because Itachi perceives it in such a way it can benefit Sasuke, it’s not a bad thing and the adults are just “dumb.”

The second instance (and these last two may be out of order) is when Fugaku raises his voice at Itachi concerning his position between the clan and village. Itachi is angry– not because Fugaku is screaming at him, not because of the pressure, but because the noise level might wake Sasuke up. He has a thought in which he accuses his own Father of not caring for Sasuke at all, because as far as Itachi goes– if you cared, would you not let him sleep in peace? Once more, anything he could misconstrue as hurting Sasuke counts against his Father.

The third is when Fugaku says he won’t be available for Sasuke’s entrance ceremony, because of the importance of making sure Itachi’s entrance into ANBU goes correctly. For a third time– Itachi believes that Fugaku doesn’t care for Sasuke, because caring for Sasuke means putting him above all else (even if Itachi is guilty of contradicting himself of this. He has a special excuse for himself so he can believe he doesn’t do this.) Itachi goes as far as to outright try to cancel the mission, to manipulate his Father into going to the ceremony and appeasing Sasuke.

Now, as far as Itachi’s excuse goes… Itachi himself believes his work will benefit Sasuke in the end. It’s why he believes he can get away with putting Sasuke off or cancelling things he previously promised. The end will justify the means to him, and in the end it’s for Sasuke. Not truly logically sound, but this is how Itachi thinks. ]]

‘None of my arguments are in support of the massacre, and they never will be’ – no, they’re in support of the one who comitted it. And how would Danzo convince village to kill civilans in their beds without alerting Uchihas? And, apparently, village is full of psychopaths. Great. And I blame Itachi for the actions of Itachi, no one else. Which is killing defenseless people and being remorseless murderer, traitor, liar and a coward. Enjoy your fave. And never become a politician or vote.

no, they’re in support of the one who comitted it

[[ I mean, if you wanna just say words for the sake of saying words, go off. I’m in support of not blaming a victim for the actions people in power manipulated him to do, dumbass.

And how would Danzo convince village to kill civilans in their beds without alerting Uchihas?

Nothing I’ve been saying is about convincing the villagers to attack the Uchiha. Danzo would’ve just simply told his personal ROOT unit to do a surprise attack on the Uchiha, alone and conveniently collected in their own district, under surveillance, to enact the genocide. Stop reaching.

And, apparently, village is full of psychopaths. Great.

You really just out here being stupid for no reason.

And I blame Itachi for the actions of Itachi, no one else

Blame him for thinking isolating Sasuke was the right path and manipulating him into a near murder-suicide, then. The massacre is not Itachi’s fault and it will never be, people higher and older than him had been orchestrating it beforehand. He was manipulated and used and you fundamentally cannot dispute this.

It really says something when you try and try again to shift all the blame onto Itachi instead of the council, Danzo, or Hiruzen, the people ACTUALLY responsible for this and toying with Itachi. The novels are there, read them

I will vote all I want :3c ]]

‘they would’ve gotten the ANBU to do it’. No one can guarantee that they would succeed, if Itachi wasn’t on their side (and Tobi ofc). And Hiruzen will have to explain to his people how the hell did hundreds of people died and who did it – there’s only so much you can pretend isn’t happening. And do I need to remind you that Itachi was supposed to be smart and wise beyond his years? (‘Hokage level’, pfft). And does he ever expresses regret? Does he ever implies that he was manipulated? No.

[[ Okay you’re here to be stupid again.

No one can guarantee that they would succeed, if Itachi wasn’t on their side (and Tobi ofc)

You are forgetting Danzo already has them sequestered into a district and the Uchiha themselves are all bunched up, every single one of them, in preparation for their own attack. If Itachi was able to launch an attack the Uchiha did not predict, who’s to say the ANBU as a whole would not have been able to? Two (2) people took down the whole of the Uchiha clan without the screaming, and fighting, etc, spilling out past the district (which is already far from the regular populace.) If Danzo had the ROOT kill the Uchiha, it would’ve been much faster and deadlier, since there’s more people at once versus the Uchiha. This was a surprise attack.

And Hiruzen will have to explain to his people how the hell did hundreds of people died and who did it –

All Hiruzen has to say is that the Uchiha became a matter of village security because they were planning a coup, which is the truth. A lot of the villagers already dislike the Uchiha (and you love to remain ignorant to that fact), and believe they are responsible as a whole for the Kyuubi incident. It was convenient as hell that it was treated as a ~tragedy~ because they got Itachi to do it, but Konoha could certainly get away with painting it as a necessary measure to save the rest of the village.

And do I need to remind you that Itachi was supposed to be smart and wise beyond his years? (‘Hokage level’, pfft).

This came out of Hiruzen’s mouth. SARUTOBI HIRUZEN’S mouth. Do you just pretend everything a character says is 100% indesputable fact? Hiruzen says this because he liked Itachi’s attitude and how he fundamentally didn’t agree with the Uchiha. Of course you’d say super nice things about a person you trusted and who you thought absolutely agreed with you. Is Itachi smart? Yes- but so are so many characters. Hiruzen himself was a prodigy, too. Intelligence =/= making the right and most logical decision. They’re people, not readers like we are. They  have things called morals and beliefs and ethics that don’t necessarily agree with ours

Characters can and will be wrong and will say things based on their own beliefs.

And does he ever expresses regret?

And here you go again telling me you’re blind. Itachi expresses regret in the fashion of leaving the village and considering himself a criminal. Itachi expresses regret in that he knows he failed and this is how the rest of his life is going to pan out. Itachi expresses regret in the fashion he wants Sasuke to kill him as punishment, that he deserves for his little brother to end his life.

Does he ever implies that he was manipulated? No.

STOP EXPECTING VICTIMS OF MANIPULATION TO KNOW BETTER.

SMH this is CLASSIC victim-blaming. ]]
