Both are shinobi who are touch starved and avoid contact, and Kakashi’s likely scared of growing this close to people lest he do something (or FAIL to do something), ala Rin and Obito. Once he’s assured Itachi’s not going anywhere, nor is he going to end up hurting him, he’d be more willing to be affectionate at bedtime.  ]]
