Yes, Suigetsu can read. We see him do it.

And here we see Suigetsu finding a scroll in Orochimaru’s secret room, being able to discern that it is something special amid a whole lot of other papers, reading it, comprehending how it can be used, and deciding that Sasuke needs to be given that thing.

He’s a competent shinobi. From a village that does have a ninja Academy. He has had at least one older family member he can remember who could have taught him things.

(He’d completed 92 official missions prior to his capture, the databook says – 2 D-rank, 33 C-rank, 40 B-rank, 13 A-rank, 4 S-rank. While 13 or younger, judging by the hints.)

Yes, he can read. No, he didn’t learn it from Orochi-fuckin-maru. If Naruto, orphaned and isolated, not paying attention in class, can read, Suigetsu definitely can, and we see him do it.

L-O-L at whoever assumes that because

  • Suigetsu speaks and acts rather crudely, and
  • he is from a pretty violent village,

he must be illiterate.

Leave your real-life prejudices at the door, people, because
what this is is the insinuation that shinobi from Kirigakure are automatically ‘less
civilized’ in comparison to villages like Konohagakure and Sunagakure. And this
is all somehow based on some assumption that Kirigakure is supposed to
symbolize a version of ‘the hood’ that happens to be full of a bunch of
illiterate hooligans taking over. Or something to that effect.

Let’s not dumb down Kirigakure to that, yeah? Their culture
and values might be different from most other villages but it does not automatically translate into ‘nothing
but barbaric and full of illiterate people’. Stop stereotyping.

Besides, Suigetsu is:

  • a Jonin from
one of the five great nations. Having completed 92 official missions and with
his specific abilities that are well suited for infiltration and espionage? He most definitely knew how to read, write
out reports, comprehend written information, as well as disseminate that
    information whenever necessary.
  • a member of the Hozuki clan—one that produced a Mizukage;
why would you think such a clan would want
    their clansmen to be illiterate??

Suigetsu talking and acting crudely does not equate to him being stupid by any
means. He is hailed as a prodigy by
at least one person (Kisame) from the same village who held quite a high
position in the shinobi ranks there (and internationally, because heck the
Seven Swordsmen are internationally renowned).

Now we come to the Orochimaru
teaching Suigetsu how to read part. Like what the actual fuck—where did that
come from? From whose tiny mind? Orochimaru clearly
didn’t intend on teaching Suigetsu any damn thing. The only reason he picked
him up was to steal the secrets of his hydrification technique. He was a
prisoner and he was tortured. Suigetsu himself claims that his stamina’s not as
great as it used to be when Hebi/Taka take off and everyone else is complaining
about how many breaks he keeps on taking.

If he’d been in top shape and was constantly training, his stamina wouldn’t dip so low. (We’ve
been told over the course of the series that chakra levels can dip low due to
age and if a shinobi stops using ninjutsu/taijutsu etc. for a while. Two examples
would be Hanzo the Salamander, and Gai’s explanation of how building up chakra
reserves requires quite a bit of physical training) So haha yeah. If Orochimaru
‘cared’ at all, he would’ve kept him in top shape. But no, the kid was stuck in
a tank and people want to say Orochimaru taught
him to read?

Orochimaru didn’t give a shit if he died—as long as he died
giving up the secrets to his family jutsu.

So, to sum up:

  • Orochimaru didn’t give a shit about Suigetsu’s well-being
and cared only about the hydrification technique
  • Suigetsu learned all he had to learn from his family and
from his village. It was his perseverance and his will to live that saw him
through years of torture and imprisonment. Orochimaru does not get fucking credit. None.

Stop trying to paint Orochimaru as ‘uwu best Mom’.  He isn’t. He
wouldn’t even know where to start
.

Stop trying to trivialize imprisonment, torture and
experimentation.

Stop stereotyping.

Yes, Suigetsu can read. We see him do it.

[[ This.

I am so tired of seeing headcanons/meta/analysis claiming that Suigetsu can’t read. It infantalizes him awfully. He’s not some dumb Kiri-redneck who needs Momma Orochimaru to teach him how to read. He already KNEW how to read. He was a Jonin-level Shinobi by the time he was captured, of course he’s going to know how to read.

Stop treating him like he’s stupid. Stop treating him like a child. Stop treating him as an object to prop up Orochimaru and make him look better. Orochimaru kidnapped him and tested on him in a tank for three years, why do you people want to ignore that so much? ]]

Do you think there could have been romance between Itachi and Kisame during the time Itachi was in Akatsuki? If so, how likely?

[[ Sadly, as much as I adore the ship (and I’ve written Akatsuki period ItaKisa before), no.

Not if we’re talking just pure canon timeline. RP is a different thing– you can make small or big changes or let things go off on a tangent. But strictly canon? It’s not gonna happen. If we just ignore the fact that statistically, Itachi’s likely just straight, Itachi was never focused on romance anyways

Izumi could never get much out of him, and it was only during her death that he gave her what he wanted, and even then it was only in her mind.

Itachi simply focuses too hard on one goal and everything else gets put on the side. Romance would be treated as a distraction, and why would he willingly go looking for romance when he is planning for Sasuke to kill him?

This isn’t to say “don’t write it”, because do write it, I love the pairing and I love writing it. But I’m going to be realistic and admit it’s not going to happen in any truly canon instance. He’s simply too focused. He’s planning to die. ]]

Referring to Sasuke as “emo” is enough to show that you didn’t get this character or its story.

I think he’s referred as emo in a humorous way, not as a definition for his character

I know for a fact that many people, his haters especially, refer to him as an emo in all seriousness. They think he’s making a big deal out of his clan massacre and that he should have just got over it…

Those people don’t even understand what he went through, they think having your clan massacred by your own brother and watching your own parents being killed right before your eyes are things you can easily get over. They call Sasuke’s need for revenge “acting up” all while referring to him as the ungrateful emo who rejected his kind teammates and abandoned the village that took care of him…

… but then again, those kids didn’t get the pain of loss or the loneliness one feels after losing their loved ones; you think they’d get the need for revenge? If they couldn’t even get those then I highly doubt they got his character.

sasukerevolution:

I actually posted this somewhere else which is meant for venting originally but was asked to post it here so

Just a warning that this is, more than anything, an angry rant. A furious rant. It’s not an analysis written cold or worded nicely, and if you really like Naruto and Sakura I’d say probably just don’t read this because it’s anti both of them and talks about a thing I see in the fandom that makes me angry. Anyway, that should suffice, you know what you’re getting into if you decide to read.

Like honestly just get Sasuke away from them why cant they just accept Sai who actually WANTS to be on team seven

I hate when people justify Naruto’s abuse of Sasuke like “oh but Sasuke was pushing everybody away it’s for his own good!!” Like first of all even if he was threatening to break every bone in his body and physically drag him back to the Village is not what you do to someone you consider a “friend”

And this is another thing I wish people would get so they’d stop claiming bullshit like Sasuke “abused” Sakura and Naruto– when Naruto and Sakura fight/try to kill Sasuke they’re doing it as people who claim to be FRIENDS with him– Naruto never gave up on his so called friendship as people are always soooo happy to talk about like harassing someone who doesn’t want a relationship with you anymore is a good and admirable thing >_> That’s abuse because they’re acting like it’s good for him and that he should be powerless and stripped of his ability to make his own choices as a friend. You wanna force him to do things against his will and drag him back? Fine, that’s one thing, but if you actually think he’s gonna be friends with you after or worse if you plan on FORCING him to be friends with you after you’re ridiculous

Sasuke on the other hand never pretended he was friends with them after Valley of the End, in fact he specifically stated that he was breaking those bonds. The only time Sasuke could be considered toxic is when he fought Naruto on the hospital rooftop because he was emotionally degrading him and they were still on the same side at that point but it’s still not abuse because the behavior wasn’t consistent and repetitive and anyway Naruto actually consented to that fight but that’s besides the point

Anyway the second thing that pisses me off is the “Sasuke was pushing everyone away” claim and that he’d be totally ALONE without team seven so he should just consent to their obsession with him and controlling him because

1) just because you have no one else doesn’t mean you should be with people who hurt you????? It’s better to just be alone tbqh???? Like literally this is the reason people like Kimimaro were so loyal to Orochimaru, because they had no one else and didn’t want to be alone so they rely on the one person who shows them kindness even if that person is horrible and using them. How is that a good outcome??

2) what the fuck is team Taka, the wallpaper? Like Sasuke assembled them HIMSELF he knew he wanted a team so he went out of his way to find them and they worked together way better than Team Seven ever did back in his Leaf Village days, not to mention he has a lot more in common with them and they all grew closer despite their differences and were shown to genuinely care about each other like in the Killer Bee fight when they all risk their lives for each other (And I fucking hate how people downplay this like seriously Suigetsu hated Karin and Karin used to want Juugo and Suigetsu to kill each other and people want to claim Sasuke is selfish and cares about nobody but he still nearly got himself killed to save Karin even though from a logical standpoint she was “disposable”) He HAD people he cared about and got along with who cared about him in turn, NO ONE from Konoha was at Sasuke’s side when he “died” in the war arc it was Taka and Kabuto (who is technically from Konoha but isn’t affiliated with it)

He had other friends!!!! And Team Seven had Sai who tries so hard to be understanding and compassionate of them going out of his way to pay attention to Sakura’s emotional state as well as Naruto’s and follow what he believes is best for them but do they give a shit?? No it’s all team seven this team seven that like fuck it Sasuke doesn’t even WANT your fucking team but they don’t care, they don’t give a single shit what he wants or what’s logical they just want to keep repeating the past and keep Sasuke where they want him, under control

It’s never about what’s best for Sasuke it’s always about what they want and how to force Sasuke into that vision against his will

yondaiime:

its midnight and im Triggered so lets all talk about how to sasuke, agency is the #1 most important thing. we see this in how he never tries to persuade taka to go with him beyond presenting the option if they so choose. he’s fully for making one’s own destiny, taking the opportunities and making what he can of them. he doesnt understand why anyone, without malicious intent, would choose to overstep that agency even if hes making dumb fuck decisions

he also seems to think hes above manipulation and his choices being overriden, so long as he sees it coming. “i know orochimarus a freak but i csn use it to my advantage” is his perspective but hes only 12 and is way in over his head. and i think that only serves to solidify his later attachment to ones own choices and paths

as with orochimarus influence, sasukes life is consistently colored by others choices and others attempts to make choices for him. itachi irrevocably destroyed his life on what he perceived as a whim. his peers consistently decide who he is and what they like about him without ever even speaking to him. he is an object to peer and authority alike to use for their own benefit and anyway i love him he deserved better pls free him from.konoha

yondaiime:

its a matter of taste i guess but to be honest i really dont think sasuke gets enough sympathy even for being Kind of A Dick. like yall his entire family was murdered by his brother who then put full responsibility on gim, an 8 yr old, to be the one to eventually murder him and like even beyond that he almost never made any significant bonds w his peers as equals because they either put him on an idealized pedestal or feared him as an uchiha. what makes matters worse is as soon as he began to get some Recovery going on he was preyed on by one of the worst international criminals in naruto history in a way that was largely metaphoric of pedophilia/csa and then past that he was encoursged to murder the only friend he ever had and feel extreme guilt over not having done so and THEN he was completely emotionally isolated for years all while knowing his own lifespan was just a ticking timebomb and THEN when he finally achieves his goal he was wrong the whole time and his entire fucking life is a lie and he learns that every single person he was mesnt to trust as a child was fucking complicit in his familys massacre because it was systemic and like

god tell me if all that happened to u you wouldnt be a little bit of a jerk sometimes

[[ Uhh…. A villain summoning a toad in Boruto is not sufficient reason to believe Jiraiya is alive. Jiraiya did not create the toads, nor was he integral to their existence. Toads have been on mount Mokyobu  before Jiraiya was born. Jiraiya was just one of few people who had a contract with them. Minato and Naruto also had contracts.

Sasuke killed Manda, who hated him, but still was able to forge a new contract with Aoda. Aoda listens to him and respects him. Summon animals do not hive-mind, they can think and make decisions on their own, such as Gamabunta regularly berating Naruto during his early summons.

Jiraiya drowned, his body is at the bottom of a lake. AU, maybe. Plausible canon? Absolutely not. ]]

[[ Man, Itachi is such a shitty villain right off the bat. No wonder his English VA could tell something was wrong right away.

1) Spends half the morning/day just loitering around the village, not causing a commotion. Visits a tea shop to get sweets for himself, possible nostalgia factor. Those are for him, Kisame can’t chew sticky things.
2) Bails at the mention of Sasuke. Nope– not out here to meet him, buh-bye.
3) Tells Asuma and Kurenai to their faces he doesn’t want to kill them. Asuma immediately calls this out….considering what Itachi is infamous for. A killer, not wanting to kill? Hm…something’s wrong here.
4) Itachi calls the shots between himself and Kisame. Okay, he realizes they have to fight. This doesn’t mean they can go all out. Kisame’s sweet enough to ask for permission to kill but Itachi wants a fight that won’t attract a lot of attention.
5) a second time, Kisame is told to tone it down, and do it Itachi’s way instead.
6) Uses techniques which are non-fatal. Worst he did physically was kick Kurenai into the river.
7) Bail when Gai mentions he called the ANBU for backup. That’s too many people.
8) the whole?? thing??? with sasuke. As Crispin said– you don’t put that much effort into a person that you do legitimately hate/don’t care for. Yes his methods are shitty and misguided but the whole effort put into making sure Sasuke hates him/reacts to him. It’s there. Itachi’s invested in it. Something is going on for Itachi to want to ensure Sasuke’s attention is on him, that Sasuke doesn’t change his goals.
9) Kisame mentions, when they’re escaping– that they do this a lot. Often. Frequently. Kisame’s just had to put up with his pacifism that Itachi can’t break. He gets a lil frustrated sometimes. Itachi says it’s because he needs to rest, and Kisame quiets up real quick.                             ]]
