what could drive Itachi to genuinely turn on Konoha?

[[ Funny you ask….

Itachi discovering that Danzo sent someone to kill Sasuke, for one. Itachi asked for one thing, and Danzo cannot even hold up his end of the bargain? Slimy old man, Itachi’ll pull out Danzo’s entrails himself. He’ll release all the information he has.

Also any situation in which Sasuke gets killed in The Leaf and Itachi can pull mental hoops to blame it on Hiruzen. Which, it’s really easy for him to sklklflksl.

His POV is that Sasuke is not supposed to die, at all. I’m sure he doesn’t know about most near-deaths (he likely gets outcomes instead of exactly what happened), but death? Not allowed. He left Sasuke there so he could live, not die.

Don’t get Sasuke killed. ]]

What if the jinchuriki Itachi had been sent to capture had been Sasuke? Assuming sealing-shenanigans taking place in the meantime.

[[ Aha, I don’t think it’d even get that far. As soon as he discovered the Jinchuuriki was Sasuke (I’m assuming some sort of switch took place), he’d call it quits, bail on Akatsuki, and take Sasuke with him.

Sasuke is the #1 priority and no one is allowed to kill him. ]]

[[ Really hate that meme/post/what have you trying to say that Itachi pulled out of the battle in the Leaf because he was scared of Gai or something.

1) He didn’t want to fight to begin with. He warns Asuma that he’s not here to kill them.

2) He tells Kisame to not overdo it when he realizes they can’t leave without a fight.

3) He again tells Kisame to do it his way because Kisame’s way draws too much attention.

4) He doesn’t leave because it’s Gai. Gai says he’s already sent word to the ANBU black ops. That’s too many people.

He didn’t want a fight to begin with, and he certainly doesn’t want to fight a full battalion. They were supposed to do this without drawing attention to themselves and now even more people are on the way. It’s not about Gai personally, it’s about Gai having warned more people than himself. ]]

sasuboru:

Was talking about Sasuke (predictably) and got all excited about his outfit change in the newest chapter. So here’s a breakdown.

1) Cloak is now inlined with a dark purple.
2) Vest is now a lighter white, naturally and realistically buttoned more to his right side.
3) Shirt is dark purple, cufflinks are the same color. Cufflinks are naturally still unbuttoned.
4) Sasuke’s two brown belts, one for his sword, and one for his weapons holster, is now a single dark purple belt for both purposes.
5) Sasuke’s got different boots.

This one is a bit more difficult to prove, as I don’t know what color the new boots are, but under the context of “leaving outlines white”, I can prove he’s had a change in boots.

The boots don’t look to extend as high as before, and the outline is filled in black. I only hope we get a full body spread like before so we know the color of his boots.
