He hands over his kukri for Itachi to inspect. There are NO seals there, yes, and it’s a pretty plain kukri, if one foregoes all technicalities of manufacture and ownership. “Not really. The power to warp and fighting with it is a distinct art passed down in my family. Ancient roots and all that.”
“So this is your kekke genkai. Your genetic ability.” He understood now. Kekke Genkai would often ignore other shinobi logic. Casting genjutsu with one’s eyes was not meant to be possible, but was something the Sharingan could do naturally.
“There is a technique like this here, but it is high level and requires the use of seals.”
“Oh really? Then there’s no need to show that part,” the King chuckles. He does, however, turn to his kukri, gives it a toss, then catches it again. “But how about this one?”
He hurls his blade skyward– and then vanishes after it in a trail of blue. Hurls it again, and the trails light after him, until he re-materializes standing beside his friend, with a smile.
Oh…
Now that is something special. Not replacement, not genjutsu. It looked very much like Lord Second’s Hiraishin technique, only Itachi did not see any seals on Noctis’ weapons.
“Teleportation via the use of weapons. Are they marked?” With something for him to port to, presumably.
“Oh. I see. Uhh…” How to explain parkour? “Well it’s… a systematic way of moving so you can get past obstacle courses…” Lacking explanation. Very lacking. Noctis stands, and he materializes one of Nyx Ulric’s kukri in his hand in a flash of blue. “Do you have a nearby alley that’s small enough and has…hmm, barrels, boxes?”
Moving…past obstacle courses…
That didn’t sound very special. More like basic movement. Shinobi were able to weave in and out of tight spaces, and even scale trees or buildings in a single leap.
“Most alleyways are occupied with crates. I’m afraid your parkour is common here.” Common enough it didn’t even have a name. So Noctis was limited in his mobility, and had to be trained to land, it seemed.
“Most things look odd when you’re not familiar with them, yes? I assure you it’s possible.” A bit of light sarcasm, as he’s currently got a pair of chopsticks in his hands, picking noodles out of his soup with practiced ease.
“Children learn when young.” There’s the real answer, at least. It’d benefit Noctis to be open to new customs….and it’d be a touch funny to watch him struggle with the utensil for a moment.
“Oh yes,” he says gamely, clasping his hands together. “The glaives and crownsguard are all extensively trained in the combat style passed down the royal family. But the more interesting part there is parkour…” He pauses, looks to his newfound acquaintance. “You familiar with parkour, Itachi? Do you have a similar thing here?”
Itachi’s expression says it all. Blinking mildly, staring at him quietly. Nope.
“I’m afraid I don’t know what parkour is. I suppose a demonstration is in order?” Or at least, an explanation. Only then could he give a definitive answer.
“An oddity, yes. You carry the advantage of being immune to genjutsu and invisible to sensors. Chakra is tied to everything. Even in studies of resuscitated shinobi, chakra still flows in them.”
So just… Different. And not a bad different.
“I would be likewise confusing if I were to exist in your natural setting.” To be fair.
rexcrystallis said:December 20th 2016, 4:19:00 pm · 2 hours ago"Chakra system,“ the King repeats. "What’s that?”
“A little bit of both.” He’s stalled– tried to find a way to answer this without confusing him further.
“Chakra is our life energy. It is what we use when we create techniques. Everyone has a different amount, and people can train to build more up. However…you are not from here. You have something else.”
Noctis-san didn’t have a chakra system. He didn’t see any color, no system of energy running through his veins. To someone else with the Byakugan, he’d appear dead. Invisible to even a sensor, tracked only through smell, skin cells, tracks.
“You really don’t have a chakra system.” Itachi doesn’t keep his discovery to himself. Formidable.
“The ability is natural for someone of my bloodline. As for others, not really. But we do have this odd quirk where someone from the royal family can open up himself or herself, so to speak, and connect with others, and grant them his or her power.”
He pauses, thinking.
“I did have to train some when I was a boy.” He laughs. “I almost burned half the palace, ha ha!”
Such an interesting contrast….
“There are abilities here passed down by bloodline. But not necessarily available to be shared.” Not…in the way Noctis seemed to be describing it. In a sense, Itachi felt he was giving him too much information. But his ability to read people had not failed him completely, and though the man was a newcomer he didn’t bear any ill will.
So he’d talk. After all, he was getting a fair exchange of information in return.
The talk of mistakes grants Noctis a small smile, though Itachi was not the sort for that. Reminds him of Sasuke, really.
“Mm. So you would be able to lead a force with the same abilities you have. They’d need training as well.” Preferably, as he imagined, it should be a force that remains with the person for years at a time. So they grow accustomed to it.
