sasukerevolution:

One thing I really wish people understood about Sasuke is that he’s afraid of getting close to people because he’s afraid that he might end up hurting them for power. He learned very early on that hurting the ones you care about actually will grant him power and that’s been re-proven several times as he grew. He believed for ten years that Itachi killed the clan as a measure of power. He learned at seven years old that a big power could be obtained by killing his closest friend. He cut his ties with Naruto specifically so that he wouldn’t feel forced to gain power by killing him– if he’s not friends with Naruto then he can’t get the Mangekyou from Naruto. This is the significance of his first scene in part two, when he says to Naruto that this time he’ll kill him on a whim. He means this time it doesn’t mean anything to him. He wouldn’t gain anything from it. It’s just proof that the bond has indeed been broken.

Itachi later tells him that there used to be bloodshed in their clan even between brothers for the sake of acquiring power– it had to do with love, and the grief that one must endure to commit that sort of a betrayal and to lose someone important to oneself. Sasuke obtained the Mangekyo after killing Itachi, he becomes aware that he has it after learning the truth, mourning, and deciding to destroy the Leaf.

Sasuke learns that the Sharingan feeds off of strong emotions, especially grief. He learns that Uchiha are full of love and it’s the pain of loss of loved ones that gives them new abilities and fills them with hatred. Everything that Sasuke knows about friendship and bonds is messed up; it’s tied to pain and loss and greed and power. He learns that hate is as powerful if not more powerful than love. He learns that love can only ever turn to hate. Is it such a wonder that he keeps people at a distance? Is it such a wonder that he’d rather call Naruto, whom he’s already tried to kill multiple times, his only friend, than refer to anyone else important to him as friends and bear the risk of someday hurting or killing them?

Sasuke’s concept of relationships is not normal. Sasuke does not think of friendship as something healthy or desirable. Sasuke sees friendship as a poison that’s only function is to someday hurt you. When Sasuke says to Naruto that he’s his one and only friend, he’s saying it because he plans on killing Naruto in a few seconds. He’s saying it because he’s trying to hurt himself for the sake of the ninja world. It’s better to only have to kill Naruto, a person who’s constantly presenting himself as a challenge to Sasuke anyway, than to have to kill every single person that’s important to him– so he doesn’t call those people important to him. He tells Kakashi and Sakura that he wants them to live in this better world– why?

Sasuke cares about more people than just Naruto. He just would really, really, really rather not.

amazingbeautifulmoonbeams replied to your photo “((boruto is the protagonist of his own story. I don’t think it would…”

Can sasuke die for his own story and naruto die for his son’t story. As a matter of fact does anyone need to die for boruto to actually become an interesting character and gain motivation, my question was asking for a solid reason why would such an important character like sasuke who we knew and followed his story for 15 years would die for a character like boruto I wouldn’t mind if he died protecting the village, or defending sarada or naruto but not for boruto to grow

[[ Listen, I don’t know why you asked me this question if you had intended for me to agree with you. I don’t, and you disagree and that’s fine, and there’s no reason for us to argue. I have my opinion, and you have yours, but I’ll tackle it one last time.

You also added “That’s his father’s job”, IE, it’s Naruto’s job to die for Boruto. I again, disagree. Boruto’s primary motivation is not his Father. Boruto’s primary motivation is Sasuke. He wants to be like Sasuke, he wants to follow Sasuke’s path, he sees Sasuke as admirable He doesn’t want to be the Hokage, he wants to be someone who supports the Hokage.

“I wouldn’t mind if he [Sasuke] died protecting the village.”

Why? The village hasn’t done anything worthy of Sasuke actually dying for it, it’s amazing he protects it. And he protects it less because he cares about its people or its system, but because Naruto beat him into it and any danger that befalls the village will affect Naruto.

Sasuke and Boruto benefit from each other’s company. This is solid canon, Sasuke likes having his student around, and we’re only currently in chapter 11 of what is presumably a long manga  and already Sasuke and Boruto collectively know important plot points that Naruto doesn’t. Naruto currently doesn’t fit into the equation.

I would much rather Sasuke die to a) be free from the village at last, and b) to give Boruto further motivation in his goals. Wearing Sasuke’s clothing is telling

Like Katie said, it’s essentially putting Sasuke out of his misery. At least he will have died for someone who is good for him.

Also, in response to your comment about “we knew and followed his story for fifteen years”, …so? It’s not Sasuke’s story, it’s Boruto’s. This is told in the first two chapters. Sasuke is a part of it, but he’s not the protagonist. Naruto isn’t the protagonist. People’s stories come to an end at some point. Boruto isn’t about Sasuke or Naruto, it’s about Boruto. ]]

Do you think kishimoto will kill sasuke in boruto, sasuke went through alot, and itachi sacrificed plenty to save him, killing him would just be stupid

[[ I don’t agree that it’s stupid to kill Sasuke.

From what I can tell from the sudden-flash-forward in the very first chapter of Boruto, Sasuke will die for his beliefs and he will motivate Boruto to move on and fight stronger.

Look at Boruto in the first chapter.

He is wearing Sasuke’s cloak, he has Sasuke’s sword, and he is wearing Sasuke’s brown boots. Even a few pages later he is wearing the headband that Sasuke originally gave him in the Boruto movie.

(Proof the cloak/boots/sword originally belong to Sasuke.)

Granted, there’s another option here which is just “really dedicated cosplay” and we all know that Boruto is inspired by Sasuke, but I’ve seen no hints he’s so inspired like Sasuke that he would imitate his style of dress. Boruto is very much okay with wearing his own clothing right now. This leads me personally to believe that Boruto took Sasuke’s clothes upon his death to honor him, or Sasuke himself told him to take his possessions.

Yeah, Sasuke’s  been through a lot. That’s true. But he’s not technically “free” in that village. He never got reparations for his clan, the shinobi system never changed, etc. Also why should he stay alive just because other people fought to keep him alive? That’s not really fair on him. Yeah, Itachi did a lot to keep him alive but that doesn’t mean Sasuke has to. Sasuke should be living for his own sake, not someone else’s. I find it perfectly acceptable for Sasuke to die for a cause he legitimately supports, IE Boruto. Their dynamic is wonderful, they communicate, and are good for each other.

Sasuke will be free of the village in death, and he will have passed on his motivation and possessions to someone he trusts and believes in.

Let him die peacefully. ]]

[[ I’d like to discuss several things about Sasuke’s novel but one currently presses my mind: Naruto’s mentioning of Itachi after the war.

Naruto offered Itachi’s name as a hero who helped save Konoha. I will type word for word the excerpt right now. I will bold what I feel is important but all the text is otherwise exactly the same.

“Naruto was telling people that after he was brought back with the Edotensei, Itachi had helped them for the sake of the world. Naruto would have known about the coup d’état, but without touching on that, he simply offered up Itachi’s name as one of the ninja who had helped him out in the Great War.

Sasuke didn’t expect that this would make everyone simply accept it, but there was no one who doubted Naruto. Even if there had been, Naruto would no doubt have not given up, but simply continued to tell his story. Putting aside the question of whether Itachi would have wanted it, perhaps the day would come when the feeling that Itachi had some kind of reason for what he did would sprout in Konoha.”

So, to summarize.
1) Naruto publicly listed Itachi as a hero during the war.
2) No one fought him on this, they simply accepted it.
3) HAD someone doubted him he would’ve just kept pressing the story.

This just feels…weird, to me? Without explaining the coup and the reason behind the massacre, or essentially “here’s why Itachi isn’t actually a genocidal mass murderer”, no one has any reason to believe Itachi would willingly help the village. But Naruto’s word is…law? He said it therefore it must certainly be true (which, technically it is but the fact no one questioned it is off-putting.)

Secondly, Itachi…didn’t want it. He really didn’t want his name passed around as a hero, that’s why he asked Naruto to remain mum on the details of the coup and to save Sasuke from scrutiny and punishment in his stead. Itachi wanted Sasuke to be the hero, not him.

It creates this weird divide. Suddenly, all public opinion on Itachi is…positive? This man who’s been known for the murder of his clan, this member of Akatsuki, who attacked the village and nearly killed everyone in it (even if Itachi was dying by Sasuke at this time, he was still a member of Akatsuki. A rule of association.)

There wasn’t any real reason to mention Itachi to the public, none at all. And yet this creates a divide of positive public opinion of Itachi and negative opinion on Sasuke.

Mass Genocidal Itachi saves the world by helping during the war.

“Crazy Psychotic” Sasuke causes a world war and wants to kill everyone.

Rrrghh. ]]
